Longwood Landscape Zone is part of the Victorian Riverina bioregion and consists of gently sloping or flat riverine plain dissected by the Goulburn River (a Heritage River) and a series of creekline tributaries. Stream condition is moderate to poor. It encloses several wetlands of bioregional conservation significance. Over 95% of the native vegetation in the zone has been cleared for agriculture, which is mainly broad-acre grazing. Few significant reserves of public land occur in the zone. Roadside and creekline reserves retain important and high quality connective habitat for Grey-crowned Babbler, Squirrel Glider, Brush-tailed Phascogale, Buloke Mistletoe and some reptiles. Populations of aquatic species have mostly been lost.

Practitioner Reports

Practitioner Report - Longwood

This report documents the process undertaken between September 2001 and December 2002 to implement Biodiversity Action Planning (BAP) at a local area scale in the Longwood Zone. The Longwood Zone trial is the first area of the Goulburn Broken Catchment to trial the BAP process of translating resource information contained in the Landscape Plan for Longwood (Ahern et al 2002) for on-ground implementation.
