Agricultural Research

With natural competitive advantages such as excellent access to water resources, a variety of soil types and a temperate climate, Victoria produces over 25 per cent of Australia's agri-food production from just three per cent of the nation's agricultural land. Agricultural research, carried out within regional agro-ecosystems of these temperate landscapes and world class technology centres is fundamental to improving the competitiveness and sustainability of agricultural industries.

The Department of Primary Industries (Victoria) divisions of Future Farming Systems Research (FFSR) (external link) and Biosciences Research (external link) are concerned with improving the profitability and market competitiveness of agricultural industries whilst ensuring that such land uses and operations remain both sustainable and environmentally responsible. The Department aims to achieve these goals through its research, industry development and extension activities.
