Photo: A cart carrying cream to a butter factory
A cart carrying cream to a butter factory early this century.
Before the use of motor transport in rural Victoria, transporting cream
to the factory was a laborious task. In summer, milk was
often sour before reaching the factory. In South Gippsland roads were so rutted
and muddy that many farmers used sleds and packhorses.
