Giant Trees

Armed with only a rope and spurs, 'high climber' Charlie Wall is preparing to ascend 250 ft (75m) fire-killed Mountain Ash trees. His job is to lop the unusable top from the tall trees before they are felled. 27 March 1946 at East Tanjil in West Gippsland.

Felling a tree at Gunyah in South Gippsland. Axemen stood on planks in order to reach the narrower part of the tree. The planks were placed in notches cut in the buttress of the tree. The original photograph is held by the Traralgon and District Historical Society.
